Favourite words

Post by Janey Dal » Sun Jul 30, 2017 11:38 am

I have a few words that I love - for no reason I can work out:

Avuncular
Hirsute
Crepuscular
Defenestrate

Anybody else got favourite words?

Hugs

Good choices Mike and Stuart!

They use oxter in Newcastle as well.

I wonder what the attraction is with certain words? With me and 'defenestration' it is partially because I can't imagine why anyone would invent a word for throwing something out of a window - it amuses me.

The others I have no idea.

Paul! NO! You can't have bed as a favourite word - that's cheating! :P :P

I like besom Sharon - they use it as an adjective in West Yorkshire - eg "He's a little besom he is!". A bit like cheeky.

And yes thoracic is quite chunky. I must admit fart was frowned on in our house as well. We had to say 'blow off" which was rather twee. It doesn't matter what you call it, the result is the same.

That's a lot of favourite words Sassy!

I challenge you to get them all into a conversation!

Bonkers is a lovely word. Just in case it has a different meaning in the US, it means crazy in the UK.

Serendipity
Fortuitous
