Re: Prediabetes tests
I’m a bit different, though, in two ways. I’ve been T1 diabetic for 23 years, and I’ve had CP for around 3 years. I’ve never had acute pancreatitis, or indeed any pain. Even if it was the tail of the pancreas that got nailed, there will be plenty enough pancreas left to produce insulin. As I said, t...

Re: Prediabetes tests
If you have only had a single episode of acute pancreatitis, then the chances are you haven’t got chronic pancreatitis because you don’t need Creon to replace missing digestive juices. Given that, there isn’t enough pancreatic damage to cause a reduction in insulin production. The advice given by yo...

Re: Life as a GP practice manager
When I phone the surgery, the response is “Press 1 for medication requests, Press 2 for all else”. I’ve never used online requests, not because I’m a Luddite, I don't see a reason to change. For sure, I’m under no pressure to do so. It is possible at the surgery, and I’m sure a lot of people use it.

Re: Alan's blog........
Just to put Jane out of her misery, the word window is from Old Norse, vindauga. Most of the population when the Vikings arrived didn’t have windows, to keep the warm in. I have a more costly interaction with offspring. Got a text this morning from pregnant daughter for an £850 bung as she was off t...

Most languages have different sexes for inanimate objects. Latin did, so all Romance languages do. English doesn’t because of Nordic influence. Don’t think that English is simpler- it isn’t. We raise cows, but eat beef (French). We raise pigs, bit eat pork (French). We raise sheep, but eat mutton (F...

Re: A book I must recommend
I’ve just started rereading Robert Jordan’s “Wheel of Time” fantasy books, mainly because Amazon are filming it for a series starting later this year, presumably to pick up the audience that watched Game of Thrones. It’s completely different, and far more thoughtful. Trouble is, the first book is 80...

Re: Life as a GP practice manager
My last GP job before I came to my senses was as a single handed GP in the small town I grew up in. So I ended up doing intimate examinations on ladies who I knew when we were kids. I did refrain from saying “At last...” One of my patients was a retired teacher - she taught me to read and writ...

Re: Hopefully we are back
I think transliterating the spammers Russian, the posts may have been about the process that makes babies. Now can we get back on topic? It’s a tragedy that half the wit and wisdom of Jane has disappeared, and a lot of well thought out advice has vanished into the ether. And now nobody will ever kno...
